Andy’s Next Sabbatical
Most members will be familiar with the idea of a minister’s sabbatical but, for those who are not, a brief word of explanation may help. Due to a number of factors, not least of which is the hours that ministers are required to work and the little opportunity there is for on the job training and research, it is standard practice in a number of denominations to provide ministers with a three month paid sabbatical every seven years. The purpose of this is both to rest and research a particular area of learning appropriate to their ongoing ministry.
In consultation with the Elders, Andy has agreed to break down the sabbatical into three periods taken over three years and this started in July 2007. Andy's second sabbatical was taken in July 2008. This option seems to benefit both Andy and the church.
