Mission News from Anna
Anna's April Adventures
Anna has been in Congo for over a month now. She is in a small town called Kindu and is adjusting to the heat and the mosquitoes. Her living conditions are pretty good. She has a relaxing lounge and fairly homely bedrooms. The electricity can be erratic at times, being plunged into darkness before the generator is turned on. Work is very busy. Anna has been creating budgets, writing proposals (in english and french!) distributing money for salaries, planning assessments, running learning and evaluation sessions with staff, distributing seeds and livestock, developing livestock, training on hygiene and technical things to name a few! Anna tries to work from 8am-6.30pm for 5 1/2 days a week, but this past month has been really busy and long days have been worked. They are applying for two other grants, sometimes working to short deadlines and have to try and prioritise the work. This is a challenge when everything seems important and urgent! With her colleague on leave, Anna is Acting Area Co-Ordinator, responsible for managing the activities and the 16 staff there at the moment. This has been quite an eye-opener but Anna has found it really satisfying and is grateful to have the opportunity to do this work. Recently a pirogue carrying 124 people overturned when crossing the river at Kindu. 100 people drowned and the government are trying to identify the dead. Only 4 people have so far been identified. Please pray for their work and for all the families involved. Please also pray for:
- Anna's understanding and speaking French to increase
- These few weeks when Anna has extra responsibility
- Strength, wisdom and that Anna won't get too lonely living by herself
- Grateful thanks that she is able to make a difference to the work in Kindu
